How to make a gypsy children's costume with their own hands?

Gypsies are a cheerful and roaming people who honor their traditions in a holy way. Songs, dances - this is something without which it can not be imagined. Therefore, it is not surprising, if you decided to choose the image of a gypsy as a carnival costume for a child .

What does the outfit look like?

Now you can buy a variety of ready-made suits, including gypsy. But if you want to try yourself in the role of designer and seamstress, then the following information will be very useful to you. The costume of a gypsy for a boy consists of such details as:

  • pants;
  • shirt;
  • headdress;
  • footwear;
  • Additions to the image.

You can look at the example of adult costumes to see what one of the variants of the gypsy image looks like.

Pants

To begin with, I want to note one feature of the costume - this is an opportunity to alter or use the things in the wardrobe. So, if the child has dark pants, you can use them. If not, you have to sew on your own. In this case, it is better to choose an atlas or silk, because we need to create a festive and elegant gypsy costume. Correctly take measurements from the child and start sewing.

In ready-made form, trousers should be wide and loose. Ideally, you need to use black cloth, but for lack of it - dark brown or gray, too, will do. If desired, you can decorate the bottom of the trousers with gold accessories or braid.

There is one more variant of trousers - it is wide breeches, the length to the knees. At the bottom of the pants you can create a torn fabric effect. But when choosing this option you need special shoes, which we will discuss further.

If you do not want to create a gypsy costume too bright and shiny, then choose a fabric without glitter and chic, it can be flax or cotton.

Costume top

This part of the suit is a shirt with wide sleeves. If you decide to sew a gypsy costume yourself, then we recommend that you follow the basic rule - use the same material. If your pants are made from satin, then for the shirt use the same material, only the other color.

As you can see in the photo, the shirt of this suit is not similar to what we are used to wearing. Therefore, the use of existing clothing is not suitable.

Shirts are sewn without buttons, only a few from above, and that is not necessary. You can make a V-neck, which will look very impressive.

With the fabric figured out, now go to the choice of color. As already mentioned above, the gypsy costume does not have clear rules and boundaries. This applies to the color scheme of shirts, so boldly choose red, yellow, green and other bright colors.

I would also like to note that the gypsy 's children's suit can be supplemented with a vest, if desired. We advise to sew it from the same material as the whole outfit. But the color gamut to comply with is optional. That is, the waistcoat can contrast differently from the color of the pants and shirt. The result is an interesting and bright gypsy costume. Photos of this option can be seen below.

Headdress

For greater harmony of the image, a scarf is almost always used. It can cover the entire head or look like a bandage. If, after sewing a suit, you still have scraps of cloth, you can use them as a bandage.

The color of this accessory has no fundamental difference. You can use bright shades, which are combined with the overall background of the costume.

But that's not all, a hat is often used as a unique headdress. And it is worn directly on a bandage or kerchief. I want to note that such a courageous decision makes the gypsy costume more interesting.

Now we note that the headdress is not an obligatory part of the image. Therefore, if you do not have the opportunity or the desire to use it, then you can do without it. In the following photo you can see an example of how a gypsy costume can look without a headdress.

Footwear

Do you think that no carnival costume can not do without shoes? You are mistaken, the gypsy costume is just like this. Gypsies are a poor people, who love freedom. Therefore, they are often barefoot. But we are talking about children's suits, which means we must remember the safety of kids. This option is appropriate if the suit is worn on the beach. In children's camps often arrange carnivals, that's for such a case the barefoot suit of a gypsy will suit.

For another option, choose shoes or boots in black. Suitable any available. And now let's talk about shoes that are selected under the breeches. We have already said that instead of trousers you can sew breeches that have a ragged bottom. So they are best suited for high boots, dark colors.

Although boots perfectly match with trousers, but it is not always convenient to wear them because of the large amount of fabric. In general, as you can see, it is not difficult to choose shoes for a gypsy suit.

Additions

One of the main additions to the costume can be attributed to the belt. Almost in every variation of the costume, you can see that the pants and shirt are connected using a belt. In order to make it, nothing special is needed. Long, dense fabric - and there is a belt that we need. But again I want to emphasize that it is better to sew from the same fabric as the whole suit.

The color of the belt can be combined with a kerchief, or, on the contrary, it can be contrasted against the background of a suit. It should be wide enough and tied on one side so that the ends remain free.

As we have already said, gypsies are a musical people, so you can choose a small instrument as an addition to the costume. It can be a tambourine or a pile.
