How to learn to see conscious dreams: 6 main steps
What if you found a few more hours a day to do something that you never did before, and go where you have never been? This is possible if you learn to see conscious dreams!
The history of lucid dreaming
Controllable dreams are an ancient practice that appeared at the dawn of human history. The first records of how to recognize and control what happens in a dream are dated 415 AD. St. Augustine described this state as a moment of physical sleep with an active brain that allows you to create worlds in your imagination. Tibetan Buddhists are also well-known masters of this technique. They have long practiced yoga, which helps to keep the clarity of consciousness in a dream. Many tribes around the world had their secrets on how to wake up and at the same time see a dream. This was considered a spiritual practice, which many modern people would describe as shamanism.
The beginning of the study of lucid dreaming
Only a century later, in 1975, the control of dreams interested scientists - Alan Worsley of the University of England decided to conduct an experiment during which he successfully passed his pre-determined chain of signals to his colleague Keith Hearn in the eyes, staying in a state of sleep. In 1978, Stephen LaBerge repeated the experiment and gained worldwide fame, becoming a popularizer of lucid dreams. He also became the founder of the institute to study the phenomenon and wrote a book devoted to this subject.
The work of Carlos Castaneda
Another person closely connected with the subject of lucid dreams is Carlos Castaneda, a well-known writer and spiritual master. He wrote a book on the art of sleep, in which he described the so-called "seven gate of dreams". He explains in detail how to go into a state of full awareness during sleep.
Many people are skeptical about the work of Castaneda and consider them a complete fiction. However, some successfully use the techniques of Castaneda and see conscious dreams regularly. The most popular technique with which most people succeed is the technique of "hands". During the day, from time to time, consciously peer into your hands, giving it about ten seconds each time. In a dream, after you have fixed consciousness on your hands during the day, you will notice them and you will be able to see the difference - they may be different in shape, look weird, you may even have extra fingers. Then you will understand that you see all this in a dream. From now on you will begin to control your sleep, you can decide what you want to do, where to go or what to see.
Six steps to lucid dreaming
There is another technique that makes it possible to be aware of what is happening during sleep and to control one's actions. However, to start with the same action that recommends Castaneda: during the day from time to time for ten seconds, look down at your hands. This will help you note the changes in their appearance during the dream. Before you go to bed, tell yourself that you are going to see a conscious dream today, and determine what exactly when you see it. Repeat the selected topic several times - this increases the chance to remember the dream. During the day it is also useful from time to time to ask yourself - Am I dreaming?
