How to grow a lemon tree at home

Do you like tea with lemon? But a lemon tree at home can also be grown and rejuvenated with citrus fruits every year. However, in order for the wild from the bones to turn into a fruit-bearing plant, it will take a lot of strength and knowledge. But citrus trees feel great in the conditions of urban apartments, so the most difficult thing is to take the first step. You ask: "And where to get a seedling?" There are two options: you can take a sprout from the nursery, where lemons are for sale, and you can grow it yourself from the bones. The second way is not only much longer, but also much more interesting. For those people who want to get the fruit of lemon tree quickly, it is better to choose the first option. Specialists from the nursery will explain to you how to care for the seedling, they will say, after how many years the lemon will start to bear fruit. In this case, the plant is often already vaccinated, which means it will be guaranteed to bear fruit. But attempts to grow a lemon from a seed are also, in most cases, successful. This citrus tree has an excellent survival rate compared to its other "brethren" - oranges or tangerines. This explains the trend that a lemon tree at home can be found more often.

Conditions for growing lemon tree at home

Your seedling, no matter how you purchased it, will need a sufficient amount of sunlight and heat. Do not forget that citrus grow in a humid climate, so try to reproduce the same tropical conditions and in the room where the lemon is. For example, spraying of leaves very well affects the growth and survival rate of the sprout. But in the sun, a young plant is better not to put, hold it for a few days in the penumbra, allowing you to get used to the new sensations for him. Remember also one more feature: a lemon tree does not like frequent movements around the house. Choose for him a place in the apartment where it can calmly spread the crown, and try to disturb as little as possible, move carefully. The lemon grows in stages, especially actively - the first 5 years. During this period, it should be transplanted annually into a larger volume. In the tub, where your sprout grows, you need to layer-by-layer drainage (fine gravel, expanded clay or special drainage mixture, which can be purchased in a flower shop), sand and humus. Lemon tree at home requires fertilizing with fertilizers and the "wintering" period. It is expressed in the movement of the plant into a room with a lower temperature. But its drop should not be sharp - it will ruin the sprout. Do this gradually, reducing the temperature every 4 degrees.

Grafting lemons

Citrus, grown from a bone, will bear fruit only after 6-10 years. A vaccination of a stem from a cultivated lemon will shorten this period to 2-3 years. There are 2 ways of grafting: in cleavage and T-grafting. To plant a lemon tree, you must first purchase a stem from the type of citrus that you like. It cuts the leaves and leaves the kidneys. When vaccinated in a cleft, cut the stem of your plant in two to a depth of about 5 cm. Privoj (a stem of high-quality lemon) should also be sharpened with a knife so that a wedge turns out. Now connect the stalk and the cleft so that the layers coincide. Tightly tie the place of inoculation with film or polyethylene. T-shaped budding - the work is shallower, requiring you to be neat. To plant a lemon tree at home in this way, you should carefully make a cut on the bark with the tip of the knife in the form of the letter "T". In the formed "pocket" insert the kidney from the scion and, just like in the first variant, roll the place of grafting (the kidney can not be closed at the same time).
