Dalglish Kenny is a person who went down in the history of British football. He was born in 1951, on March 4, in Glasgow (Scotland). This athlete became famous for many, and it's worth mentioning at least briefly.

The most interesting facts

Dalglish Kenny is known primarily because he played for his entire life in only two clubs. It's Celtic and Liverpool. There he received universal recognition and, of course, numerous awards. Another Kenneth Mathison Dalglish (this is his full name) is a Knight of the Order of the British Empire, which is also very important.

In his team, he set two records: as the player who played most of the matches, and as a player who sent the most goals to the opponent's goal.

Kenneth Mathison was recognized in the 1982/83 season as the player of the year. The same title came to him in 1979 and 1983 (this is according to the Association of Football Journalists).

It is also interesting that in 2009 Dalglish Kenny was named the FourFourTwo magazine as the greatest striker in the postwar history of British football. And this man with a capital letter entered the hall of glory English and, of course, Scottish football.

Career of the fielder

Dalglish Kenny for his entire career in the "Celtic" (and he played there from 1968 to 1977) four times became the champion of Scotland and the same time won the Cup of the country. But that is not all. Once he even managed to win the Scottish League Cup together with his team.

In 1977, Bob Paisley invited the player to FC Liverpool. At that time, the coach set a transfer record of 440,000 pounds. But Kenneth justified himself. Those years that he was in the "Liverpool", became for the team one of the most successful in the whole history. The club won six league titles and three European Cups! But that's not all, because in addition to this, "Liverpool" received five internal trophies. For his style of play, as well as for achievements he was given a special nickname. It sounded like this - King Kenny. The fans called Kenneth Matheson such a powerful nickname.

By the way, it was Dalglish who became the playing coach of the club when Joe Fagan left. Combining the duties of the head and field forward, Kenneth managed to win two FA Cups and three champion titles. But in 1991 he left the team, and a new coach, "Liverpool".

Further activities

Eight months after leaving Liverpool, Kenneth Matheson returned to the sport. He headed FC Blackburn Rovers. It was thanks to Dalglish that this team won the Premier League in 1995. But after that, after some time, he left his post, as he intended to become a sports director.

The final departure from the club occurred in 1996. And in January of the following year, 1997, Kenneth Matheson became the head coach of FC "Newcastle". Under his leadership, the team took second place in the Premier League ranking and even reached the final of the FA Cup. However, the following season, "Newcastle" failed. He took only 13th place. After two matches next season, Dalglish was fired. But such a professional for a long time could not sit around, so he was invited to the sports director at Celtic. He accepted the offer, but still started in Scotland to train players. So from the sports director, he turned into a head coach.

Charity and return to Liverpool

For ten years, since 2000, Dalgliesh has been doing charity work. He, together with his wife, organized a fund called The Marina Dalglish Appeal. This organization was directed to raise funds for the treatment of people with cancer. Its activities continued until 2010.

Then FC Liverpool became interested in football. The fact is that the leadership then fired Roy Hodgson, and so the team needed a new head coach. They appointed Dalglish. The contract was signed in 2011, on May 12. The playing coach of Liverpool has returned, but not for long. In theory, Kenneth Matheson was supposed to coach the team until 2013, but due to the fact that the 2011/12 season was very deplorable in terms of results, he was fired. 14 defeats, 14 wins and 10 matches in a draw - this seemed to the leadership inadequate. And despite the fact that Dalglish led the team to victory in the League Cup and brought "Liverpool" to the FA Cup final, he was dismissed.
