The VAZ-2106 cooling system consists of several elements. And each performs its functions, they will be described in more detail below. The system on the "sixes" is different from the one used on the cars of the later models (starting from 2108). The method of charging the cooling is somewhat different: the liquid is poured first into the radiator, then into the tank to maintain the required level. And there are also a few small details that distinguish the system from the newer ones. But this does not mean that the cooling system of the "sixes" is imperfect and does not work well.

Small circle of fluid circulation

Suppose you run a cold engine. The process of fluid circulation in it starts instantly, with the first turns of the crankshaft. The liquid begins its movement first along a small circle. It includes all the elements, except for the radiator. The engine cooling system VAZ-2106 functions in such a way that when the liquid circulates through a small circle, the heater radiator warms up. In addition, because of the rapid movement of fluid, which does not have time to cool down, the time spent on warming up the engine is less.

Great Circle

When the antifreeze temperature reaches 85 degrees, the radiator is connected. With its help, the temperature decreases much more efficiently, due to this, its value is maintained at the optimum level. The cooling system includes a mechanical or electric fan. They will be described below, and all the advantages and disadvantages of each type of fan are considered.

Expansion tank

It would seem that you can talk about such a simple and uncomplicated element as an expansion tank. On the one hand, any capacity can be used as it, which satisfies certain conditions. But without this node, the VAZ-2106 cooling system can not function normally. The volume of fluid is always changing, it is unstable. But the space for it no longer becomes in the nozzles, the engine jacket and the radiator. And the reason that the volume of a liquid changes is a constant fluctuation of its temperature.

When there is an increase in temperature (heating), the distance between molecules of matter increases. Everyone knows this from the course of physics. And now imagine if there was an increase in the temperature of the antifreeze from zero to 80 degrees. Of course, its volume will also increase. And somewhere there must be a surplus of fluid. They go through the branch pipe into the expansion tank. When the temperature falls, the volume is steadily decreasing. And all the surplus that went into the tank, return to the radiator and nipples.

System connections

These are exactly the elements that are necessary for the VAZ-2106 engine cooling system to function normally. With their help, all nodes and aggregates participating in the system operation are connected. The circulation of the liquid occurs only with the help of these elements. The nozzles are made of thick rubber, inside it there is a cord, which further strengthens the structure. Consequently, the bends are not afraid of bends, small strokes and serious deformations.

For each car model, the nozzles have different shapes. Everything depends on the distance between the nodes being connected. Also plays a significant role and at what point the connection of the nozzles to the system takes place. Due to the fact that the inside of the nozzle is perfectly smooth, it fits snugly against the metal tubes with which the connection is made. For maximum efficiency, it can be used for the installation of silicone-based sealants. On the outside, each branch pipe is clamped with a metal clamp. The latter is wider, the better the connection will be.

Liquid Pump

This element of the system allows to improve the circulation of the liquid through the nozzles and radiators. Of course, due to the fact that the hot antifreeze moves, displacing the cold, the system somehow, but it will work. However, it is extremely important to inject additional acceleration to ensure two conditions. First, the liquid must not be heated to critical temperatures. Secondly, it should be cooled as soon as possible. Short-term heating and cooling allows you to keep the temperature at a given level.

A liquid pump is a rotor in an aluminum casing with an impeller on its inner side, and an external drive pulley. It is with the help of the impeller that the VAZ-2106 cooling system works normally (the flow pattern is shown in the figure above). The impeller is made of plastic. But there are also aluminum samples, only use them unreasonably for the reason that they can quickly collapse in the case of water, rather than antifreeze. The most frequent malfunction in the pump is the failure of the bearing. It can break down gradually if the drive belt is over-tensioned.

Stove cock

Perhaps, in the "six", and in all the classics, this is the most unreliable element. Unfortunately, the quality of this node is good, but the design is such that it is impossible to operate this crane for a long time. Its function is to block the flow of hot liquid that enters the radiator of the stove. In many respects, only because of this crane the VAZ-2106 cooling system breaks down. Malfunctions of this node can be seen on several grounds. The very first is the presence of antifreeze on the rug near the passenger seat.

The failure of the crane is accompanied by the fact that it either does not open the supply of hot antifreeze, or does not cover it. At the same time, by the way, there will be a metal flag located on the casing of the cock. The reason for this behavior is the destruction of ceramic plates, through which the feed is adjusted. On what only tricks do not go the owners - and jam the nozzle for the summer, and install water half-turn valves that can be purchased for a penny. True, you need to make adapters to connect them.

Radiators of the system

When a repair is performed on a VAZ-2106 car, the cooling system is rarely turned off. The exception is the removal of the engine. In this case, it is necessary to drain the liquid and disconnect the pipes going to the radiators of the stove and cooling. What is a radiator? These are two small tanks, which are located in a horizontal plane. On the vertical line between them are laid metal tubes - cells. Hot liquid is supplied to the upper tank, enters tens of thin cells, which allows it to cool down more quickly.

Material for making radiators - copper, bronze, brass, plastic. From the latter, only the upper and lower containers are made. To increase the efficiency of heat output between cells, there are several hundred of the thinnest plates. Due to the fact that the area increases, the heat transfer of the radiator improves. The device of the main radiator and the one that is in the oven is the same. But there is a small feature of the first - it is connected to the expansion tank. All the excess fluid is expelled from the radiator and enters the tank.

Blower Cooling Fan

It serves to increase the efficiency of the cooling system. With its help, a powerful airflow is created. The cooling system of the radiator VAZ-2106 can be built using a fan either with a mechanical drive or with an electric one. The latter is installed on earlier models. Its advantage is that it works only in cases where the temperature of the liquid reaches a critical value. But the fan with a mechanical drive (it is just mounted on the rotor of the pump) produces blowing constantly, no matter what the temperature in the cooling system. This makes its use in cold weather quite uncomfortable.

Thermostat

This is a small device, through which the flow of fluid between the cooling circuits is switched. Its composition is very simple - a conventional bimetallic plate, as well as a small design of springs. When a certain temperature is reached, the plate deforms slowly, which moves the valve. The position of the latter, by default, circulates the fluid along a small circle. Consequently, with a breakdown, the antifreeze will inevitably boil. Previously, the VAZ-2106 cooling system, the antifreeze circulation circuit for it, was considered in detail. In the event of a breakdown of the thermostat, it can be excluded from the system altogether. True, the liquid will move only along a large circle, in winter the engine warm-up will be very long. The result is an incorrect engine operation and a cold car interior.
