The books of Nikolai Basov firmly took their place in the niche of the "middle peasants" of the fantasy world and fantasy. Among his works there are no books that would be considered a masterpiece of fiction. But they are quite readable, and they have formed their own readership.

Work: After studies, Nikolai Basov worked as a designer (later as an instrument installer) at a closed plant. His activities involved frequent and lengthy business trips, so the future writer managed to visit all corners of the USSR. In the perestroika period, Basov Nikolai worked as the head of the technical service at the Moscow Research Institute.

After the collapse of the USSR, the author worked hard for ordinary workers, tried his hand at entrepreneurial activities, and also tried to write.

Creation

Basov Nikolai always wanted to become a writer, from his earliest childhood, when he was very fond of science fiction. But fate decreed that he had to postpone the fulfillment of his dream. Since 1987, the author has been attending creative work of the Literary Fund for several years. His teachers were Tadeos Barkhudaryan, Galina Drobot and Anatoly Pristavkin. In 1990, Basov tightly connected himself with literary activity and began to work as an interpreter in the publishing house "Asmodeus", mastered the profession of the editor. I even had to spend some time as a "literary nigger" and publish under pseudonyms (B. Futov).

Nikolai Basov began to work closely with writing books since 1992, but the debut book was published only in 1995. It was a fantastic action movie "The Demon Hunter".

The author collaborated with the publishing houses "Armada", "Alpha-book", "Apostrophe". Most of the books were published in the publishing house "Exmo".

Dilogy "Ilya Rusov": the books are written under the pseudonym B. Futov (1996-1977), a criminal detective with elements of the supernatural.

Series "The Magic of the Unknown": consists of three novels in the genre of fantasy - "The Magic of the Unknown", "The Search for the Unexpected", "The Game of Magic." The fourth part of "Collision of magic" is not completed, although since the writing of the third book was already 7 years.

The cycle about the world of Lothar has no name and is divided into two large series: "The Chronicles of Lothar Yellowhead" (8 books, 1995-1997) and "Troll Reborn" (8 books, 1998-2002). Both series belong to the genre of combat fantasy (heroic fantasy) and stylistically very similar. They are considered one of the best works of the author.

The "Followers of the Shadow" dialogue: the first part of "Prince Diodorus" was written in 2007, the second novel is not completed.

Cycle "Soldier Stefan": the first part of the trilogy "Invulnerable does not exist" was written in 1998, the second and third novel are not completed.

Nikolai Basov is a controversial writer. On the one hand, his books are liked by lovers of classical fiction: the narrative is conducted consistently, logically, without a thousand necessary and unnecessary events on every page. And because of this, novels can seem to the modern reader boring, even tedious: they lack what is now commonly called the word "action".

Enough of other shortcomings. For example, the novel "The Game of Magic" was criticized for the poor development of the world, cardboard-patterned characters and flaws in stylistics. And even the fans of the author remained unhappy, who fell in love with Basov for the series about Lothar.

However, you do not have to be diligent with criticism. Basov Nicholas writes more for older adolescents, and adolescent males. So an intelligent lady in an elegant age, the author's novels may seem not too suitable for reading. Then how her grandchildren can be absolutely delighted.

The author's books are hardly worth reading to women - this is a typical heroic fantasy about brutal and courageous heroes, fighters against the universal evil and particular cases of injustice, and about the path that must be taken to become this very hero.

In general, as already said, for boys 14-16 years old these books will be the right choice. But more mature and sophisticated readers will immediately find thousands of shortcomings, because of which you can stop reading these books: there are a lot of works in the same genre, but written more talentedly, the patterned characters and the recognition of the storyline, the discrepancy between the various details of the narrative to real facts, The primitiveness of the basic idea, and so on.

But if the reader clearly understands what to expect from such a book and he wanted to read something from the classic "correct" heroic fiction, where a lone hero saves everyone and everything, the books of Nikolai Basov are one of the best options.
