Athanasius Feth "The night shone, the moon was full of garden": history of creation, analysis

One of the best works created by the great lyricist Afanasy Fet, "The night was shining, the garden was full of moon". This poem was written already at the end of the poet's life and was dedicated to the happiest period in his life.

One of the refined lyricists of the nineteenth century is Fet. "The night shone" - a poem that refers to the late stage of the author's creative path. It should be said that, despite the large number of touching and sad works that the great Russian romanticist created, he was in life a rather businesslike and grasping man. Poetic creativity for Fet was a saving tool, allowing you to escape from the hustle and bustle of life. But whose image is present in the work "Shining Night"? Fet died down, in the opinion of critics and biographers, dedicated to Maria Lazich, an early departed life.

Maria Lazic

She was the daughter of a small landowner. He is an officer, not devoid of romance. Perhaps fate brought them together at an inappropriate period. There would be this acquaintance a little later, the girl's life would not end tragically. And in Russian culture there would be no great lyrics. For the rest of her life the last time she met Maria was remembered when she was in a spacious living room, she was playing the piano, and the night was shining outside the window. Fet wrote this verse many years after the memorable evening.

The young officer fell in love with the girl at first sight, but did not intend to marry. Material difficulties and the desire to return the title of nobility proved to be stronger than love. Some critics believe that most of the works the poet dedicated later to Maria Lazic. The top of his lyrics was "The night was shining". Fet, the analysis of his work became the subject of a large number of literary articles, his whole life was judging himself for the weakness that he showed in his youth. Repentance and formed the basis of the poem.

"The rays at our feet ..."

In the first quatrain about the last evening with Mary, Fet says. "The night was shining ..." - in these lines he is transferred to the setting of the mansion. Maria Lazic was a musically gifted girl. For her personally, Ferenc Liszt himself wrote music for her . Fet repeatedly asked her to play something from the works of this composer.

At the first meeting, Maria told Fet that her heart was given to another. But in reality she had long been in love with the poet and his poems. In one of the letters Fet told his friend that he had met a girl who is perhaps the only one with whom he could live happily all his life.

"You love and cry over you"

Quiet romantic evenings were many. The house of Father Maria was distinguished by hospitality. It was often possible to meet young officers. But Fet and Lazich behaved somehow apart, quite rarely participating in general fun. He never told her feelings. Fet expressed his love only in verse. "The night was shining" - a poem in the second stanza of which the author confesses mentally in love to his interlocutor. In these lines, he conveys a desire not to stop that happy moment: "to live, not to sink sounds".

Agonizing years

Maria was a homeless woman. To marry her meant to doom yourself and your future family to eternal poverty. Bury your future, vegetate in the backwoods and have a wife that withered ahead of time from poverty. In addition, their regiment was to move to a martial law and act to the Austrian border. This is what Fet Maria Lazić said last night. But the girl reacted to the officer's explanation with restraint. Maria said that she did not intend to encroach on the freedom of the poet, but only dreams of listening to him, talking with him.

When the situation was heated to such an extent that there was a threat to tarnish the reputation of the girl, Fet stopped all communication with her.

The life of the beloved poet ended tragically. My father did not allow me to smoke in the house, but she still did not deny herself this pleasure. One day, while reading the book, Mary lit a cigarette and took a nap. When she came to, the flame enveloped a significant part of the dress. Frightened, the girl only aggravated the situation: she began running around the mansion and ran out onto the balcony. The flame from the tide of air enveloped her whole body.

Maria Lazić died of severe burns and, as the witnesses claimed, she asked to save Fet's letters before her death. The poet never visited her grave. Until the end of his life, he considered himself guilty of her death.

"That you are one - all your life, that you are love"

In the last lines the author regrets the past life. He managed to return the noble title. He profitable married and lived a life of prosperity. But he could not forget about Maria Lazich. After more than a quarter of a century, he again felt the enchanting sounds of the piano and the singing of his beloved. The work uses a repetition: "You love, hug and cry before you." This phrase occurs in the poem twice. With the help of this artistic technique, the author strengthens the emotional effect.

Fet's poem "Shining Night" is a masterpiece of Russian lyrics, once again confirming that the poet can not become a true master of the word without knowing true love and without experiencing a sense of loss.
