Astrakhan Kremlin - an architectural monument of Russia

For more than four centuries the Astrakhan Kremlin has been a majestic architectural structure, an ornament of boundless Russia. For a long time Period of time, he played the role of an impregnable fortification, reliably defending the southeastern part of the state. The construction of the Kremlin in 1580 took the voevoda Ivan Cheremisinov. He chose a very good place on the hill on the left bank of the Volga, compiled a construction project and sent it to Moscow for approval.

The governor liked the place for building the fortress, and he gave good. From the east and south the Astrakhan Kremlin was surrounded by swamps and Solonchak lakes, and from the north and west - the Volga's channels and the river itself. The fortress was erected in two years, but for the construction of buildings-monuments, which number 22, it took about four decades. They built not only administrative and military structures, but also church buildings, among them there is the most beautiful cathedral in Russia.

Initially, the fortress was wooden, but then, realizing how far Astrakhan was from Moscow, and that there was no protection for it in case of an attack, they decided to build stone walls. For this case, a brick was taken from the ruins of Saray-Batu, the former Golden Horde capital. Do not think that the Astrakhan Kremlin was built immediately in such a form as we see it. Separate structures were erected gradually until the end of the twentieth century. Also, several buildings were reconstructed several times.

The towers of the Astrakhan Kremlin are visible from almost any point of the city, even the most distant one. It is a kind of landmark not only for the townspeople, but also for tourists. The symbol of Astrakhan and the Kremlin itself is the bell tower, reaching a height of 80 meters. It so happened that this structure was rebuilt three times. Originally the bell tower was erected in the beginning of the XVIII century, but not half a century later, as it was covered with cracks. To prevent further destruction of the building, it was dismantled. In 1813, work was completed on the construction of the second bell tower, but it was not destiny for her to stand for long. A century later, the structure tilted, and it was dismantled. The third time the building was built in 1910, but this option is not entirely successful, you can see that the bell tower is under a slight bias.

A lot of famous for the whole country its beauty and grandeur of buildings has on its territory the Astrakhan Kremlin. A photo of some buildings causes admiration and pride for the masters who managed to make such a miracle. The most famous buildings are Troitsky and Uspensky cathedrals, guardhouse, Bishop's house. Initially, the Astrakhan Kremlin was built as a defensive fortress, so its walls are very strong and reliable. Their height varies from 7 to 11 m, and the thickness - 3-5 m. The perimeter of the walls is 1,544 km.

The configuration of the entire ensemble is dictated by the terrain, if you look at his plan, but you can see a rectangular triangle, on which the towers are erected. The Astrakhan Kremlin is an architectural decoration not only of this city, but of all Russia. Every year thousands of tourists come here to see this magnificence.
