About how to choose a tonometer, and not only ...

To date, many people who have problems with blood pressure, prefer to buy a tonometer and use it at home. This is very convenient, because you do not need to constantly visit a polyclinic or call an ambulance whenever you feel bad and you need to measure pressure. The fact is that both hypertension and hypotension in the future can lead to the development of serious diseases associated with malfunctions in the cardiovascular system, as well as disorders of the kidneys and brain.

However, before each such buyer becomes the question of how to choose a tonometer correctly, so that it suits the patient as much as possible and is easy to use. In general, the method of measuring pressure is of two kinds: the Korotkov principle (mechanical) and the oscillometric technique (electronic). In both cases, a pneumatic cuff is used. But in the first variant it should be superimposed on the shoulder, and in the second it is possible to superimpose on the wrist, shoulder or finger, which depends on the type of the tonometer.

Also, to answer the question of how to choose a tonometer, you need to decide what types of these devices exist:

  1. Semi-automatic pressure gauge, in which the cuff is applied to the shoulder. Air must be pumped manually with a special pear. From the point of view of using the power of nutrients, this option is very convenient and economical in operation. However, this kind of tonometers can not be used by weak people, because they will need to exert a lot of effort to pump up air if necessary.
  2. Automatic pressure meter, which also uses a cuff, but the air is pumped up independently after pressing the button. As a rule, these tonometers come complete with adapters, which allows the device to work from the network. However, if it is not included, it is not difficult to acquire such a mechanism. Of course, how to choose a tonometer is of great value. For example, this kind of an order of magnitude more expensive, but also more convenient to use.
  3. Also, automatic tonometers have been developed, which can be worn on the wrist. They are much smaller than usual, they work with the use of batteries (batteries) and have a high mobility factor. So, with such a tonometer, the pressure can be measured anywhere. As a rule, athletes use only this type of pressure gauges, because they are convenient during training. But you can choose a tonometer of this type only when it is used by a person whose age is less than forty years. This is due to the fact that atherosclerosis, the presence of a weakened pulse and other age-related changes can significantly affect the accuracy of the measurement, and the testimony will be removed incorrectly.

In the question of how to choose a tonometer, one must also consider the size of the cuff for each of them. If it is too big, it will not be able to cover the shoulder tightly and, thus, the device will give incorrect figures. If it is small, it is also uncomfortable, because it can be muscle gouging.

If the patient has an arrhythmia, a model that fixes this pathology (a flashing heart lights up on the screen) will suit him. If a person has a weak pulse, it is best to use a mechanical tonometer - the very first kind that all doctors use. The fact is that the electronic heartbeat can simply not be fixed.

As a whole, for today there are various tonometers. How to choose from such a variety? You can consult a doctor or, using the recommendations above, do it yourself. Remember that the accuracy of the mechanical pressure meter should be checked every two years, and the accuracy of the electronic one - once a year.
