These birds are usually divided into two families: cockatoo and simple parrots. However, there are sources that divide them into three families.

Parrots are mainly distributed in South Asia, Africa (northern), Australia and the Malay Islands (slightly more than 100 species).

The sizes of parrots range from 9 centimeters (pygmy from the south of the Pacific region) to 1 meter (South American amazon). And the structure of all of them are very diverse - from the inseparable chunky (masquerade inseparable) to small loris and cockatoo.

On their head unusually brightly colored feathers (yellow, blue), and their bodies can have green, red, yellow, white and even black color.

It seems that there are so many kinds of parrots in the world (the photo shows their diversity), so many different colors of their feathers, and even more, because in one parrot can contrast a surprising number of bright colors. For example, only cockatoo Australian can be with bright pink, white, yellow or even with a black tuft with a completely different color of feathers on the body.

In the same Australia, small parrots have plumage grayish-yellow color.

Many species of these amazing birds are named according to their bright coloration. For example, ara red, red-green macaw and ara are golden-blue.

Families, subfamilies

Scientists divided these birds into two families: parrots and cockatoo. The cockatoo was previously classified as a subfamily.
