The rarest animals are endangered species

The world's rarest animals do not necessarily have to be strange and incomprehensible, they are often very familiar with them, just do not know that these animals are on the verge of extinction. Although there are absolutely extraordinary creatures among them.

To this section of the Red Book, as the rarest animals, there is a large panda, of which there are no more than 700 animals worldwide. Most of the species live in Chinese reserves and practically do not occur in the wild. These black and white animals are already recognized as China's national treasure, so no one was surprised when a farmer who shot and killed a panda was sentenced to life imprisonment.

It's sad, but to date rare African animals are representatives of the family of big cats - cheetahs and lions. The threat to large cats causes human activity, which is why the historical population of these animals decreased several times. African savannah elephant also has a hard time, representatives of this species number about 700 thousand, but it is still listed in the Red Book as needing protection.

The rarest animals are found in Indonesia and on the island of New Guinea. Among them proehidna is a strange beast, which, like the platypus, has both a beak and a thick coat. Another no less interesting animal is the Komodo monitor or dragon, whose habitat is the Indonesian island of Komodo. These are giant poisonous lizards, which weigh an average of 70 kg, although according to some data, individual individuals reached 166 kg and had a length of more than 3 meters.

The rarest animals of the island of Madagascar are night lemurs aye-aye, in nature there are only 20 individuals of this unique species. It is worth noting that all kinds of lemurs (there are about 20 of them) are under threat of extinction.

The sad fate of the last representative of the Galapagos turtles of the male George. This species can already be considered extinct, since there is only one 100-year-old in the world, and despite a reward of 10,000 dollars, the female of this species could not be found.

The rarest animals of Sumatra are Sumatran rhinoceroses, the smallest representatives of this family, even compared to the white and black rhinoceros. This species has about 300 individuals and continues to be ruthlessly exterminated because of a valuable horn, the cost of which reaches $ 30,000 per kilogram.

Another rare and rather unusual beast is the pangolin, which in appearance is considered by many to be representatives of the reptilian world. But this is a mammal, just choked in scales. This animal is famous for the fact that in the event of danger it turns into a ball that is almost impossible to unfold because of incredibly strong muscles. In addition, it is quite dangerous to do this - the scales of pangolin are so sharp that you can easily cut yourself.

This is a very small list of rare animals. In fact, they are much more: Chinese river dolphin, northern wombat, mountain couscous, Ethiopian jackal, eastern mountain gorilla and many other species that need human protection.
