The Grand Canyon and the famous waterfalls of Crimea

On the peninsula of Crimea there are many amazing sights, both natural and man-made. But, perhaps, the most interesting of them, which the Crimea is proud of - the Grand Canyon and the Silver Stream waterfall . You can reach these magic places in two ways: from Yalta on the road through the Ai-Petri plateau or, which is easier, from the town of Bakhchisaray to the village of Sokolinoye and further 5 km up the not very steep road, so this unprepared traveler will be easy to get. Both these roads have their advantages: going to the Grand Canyon from Yalta, you will see the Ai-Petri rock with its battlements, and starting from Bakhchisarai, you can see at the village of Tank pile of rocks, from afar resembling the profiles and figures of different celebrities. This place is called - the Valley of Presidents. In the village of Malosadovoe, you should pay attention to the fortress of Xuiren, and in the village of Sokolinoye - to the hunting lodge of Prince Yusupov (1910) and the Bulgakov estate. After 4 km from Sokolinoi, the road leading through the shady forest leads to the tourist parking lot and the cozy cafe "Grand Canyon". From here you can go deeper into the canyon only on foot, leaving the car in the parking lot.

The Grand Canyon is the creation of an inexorable and eternal sculptor - water. For many centuries the streams of the Auzun-Uzen flowed and piled huge boulders, and the river itself pushed soft karst rocks through its channel until a narrow and deep canyon with numerous cascades formed. Nearby, the Silver Waterfalls falls (the second name is Tsarsky). In the channel of another river - Sary-Uzen - there is a block almost 4 m in height, overgrown with moss. On it fall, breaking into thousands of streams, the water of the river. If you visit the waterfall in summer, when the rains are small and Sary-Uzen is not so full, it really reminds a harp with a thousand silver strings, but if you come in the spring, when snow melts, or after showers - then the waterfall really looks royal. Under the cascade is a mysterious grotto.

Silver Jets is not the only waterfall that the Grand Canyon and its surroundings are famous for. If you climb up the Auzun-Uzen River, you can meet a few more large and small waterfalls and cascades. The canyon crashes into the depth of the Ai-Petri massif for 3 km. As the wall of the canyon moves forward, it becomes ever narrower and more precipitous. Near the path runs a small river. It was her swift current that dug in the rocks the so-called "boilers" and "baths", sometimes measuring 5-6 m and a depth of 3 m. Moving upstream, one can walk to a very beautiful Blue Lake, changing color, depending on the lighting , From bright blue to malachite-green.

The Grand Canyon approximately in the middle has a karst spring of Paniya with surprisingly clean and tasty water. You need to go up to the Blue Lake, and then turn down the main hiking trail to see another attraction of this amazing corner - Karagol or Bath of Youth. The slopes of the gorge in this place are so close, and the crown of the forest is so impenetrable to the sun that the water of the river remains about 10 degrees Celsius even in the most burning summer heat. To plunge into this cool font, get a charge of vivacity and feel rejuvenated for 10-15 years - that's why tourists come to the Grand Canyon.

The unique plant world of the canyon is of interest: several dozen types of Red Book plants live here, and even such a rarity as the Orchid Venus shoe. Why are they preserved there? During the last glaciation, many plants sheltered from the cold winds of the Grand Canyon. The Crimea was then at the mercy of frost, but in this narrow and deep - up to 320 m - crevices, plants surviving since the pre-glacial period were able to survive. And now tourists can make "travels in time," even without leaving the canyon.
