The Cold War: briefly about the most important

The Cold War, which can not be briefly described, is an event that has no analogues in the history of mankind. For almost 40 years the world powers have competed in the creation of powerful weapons of mass destruction. The arms race made the people live in fear.

The Cold War, briefly its main events will be set out below, mainly held between the USSR and the United States. Two great world powers, two camps - capitalist and socialist, two powerful military centers. It all began with the Soviet Union's refusal to accept the so-called "Marshall Plan". The USSR feared that the countries of the socialist camp would fall under the influence of the United States. Churchill's speech in Fulton has put everything in its place: an open confrontation between the two giants began.

How did it manifest itself? The local conflicts of the Cold War were sharp and dangerous: the Berlin crises ended with the erection of the Berlin Wall, a symbol of the Cold War and the Iron Curtain, the Caribbean crisis in 1962 nearly led to World War III, the Korean War became an indicator of how in one country one can split into one Two different states, the Afghan war was an example of cruelty, and the war in Vietnam - one of the biggest conflicts in the second half of the century.

Also, the Cold War (briefly about the created blocs) was the time of creation of numerous political alliances of states: the two main opposing blocs are the ATS and NATO, the economic blocks of the CMEA and the EEC, and various blocks of CENTO and ASEAN. Science did not go too far: atomic bombs were created , the first "public" test was conducted in the operation in the Japanese war in August 1945, when bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Later in the USSR, a hydrogen bomb was created . In addition to creating weapons of mass destruction, the USSR and the United States competed in the development of outer space. So, our first person in space was our Yuri Gagarin, and the first person on the Moon was their Neil Armstrong. The mastery of outer space could mean the approach of victory to a particular camp.

Despite all the fierce competitions, there was a period of detente in the Cold War, when important agreements were signed to limit testing and reduce armaments. This period has the following time frame: 1962/1979. At that time, a well-known Security Conference was held in Helsinki, where the USSR was represented by Leonid Brezhnev.

But in 1979 the Cold War gained a new turn. The entry of Soviet troops into Afghanistan marked the beginning of a brutal Afghan war. The end of the Cold War took place during the period of perestroika, when Mikhail Gorbachev announced a "new political thinking" and withdrew Soviet troops from Afghanistan. This was one of the reasons for the defeat of the Soviet Union in the arms race.

The Cold War, briefly described events of the arms race, the created blocks and scientific discoveries - all this became an integral part of the history of the 20th century. The confrontations between the two world powers ended in the political defeat of the USSR and the collapse of the socialist camp.
