The Brahmaputra River. Gene storage of bioresources

There are many amazing places in the world that fascinate, amaze the imagination and make you enjoy their contemplation. Brahmaputra is recognized as one of such astonishing places by scientists. Let's see what the mainland is the Brahmaputra River, than its valleys attract tourists from all over the world. Why is this river called the masculine name at a time when all the rivers in Bangladesh or India bear female names?

Where is the Brahmaputra River

For sure, this intricate, seemingly even ridiculous and ridiculous title you have heard more than once. But many still do not know where the river Brahmaputra is. And this is not surprising, because it flows in India, and in China, and in Tibet, and through Bangladesh and, most strikingly, in the Himalayas. It is considered one of the largest and widest rivers in Asia. The most interesting is that the river in each country has its own name. Perhaps, that's why not always people can unequivocally answer the question about its location.

If you translate the name of the river from Tibetan, it will mean "water that begins its journey from the tail of the comet." The river Brahmaputra has a length of almost three thousand kilometers. The area of the river basin is about 930 thousand square kilometers. The river begins in the Himalayas at an altitude of 5,200 kilometers. Passes the plains, frames the mountains. The southern parts of the Ganges River are the place where the Brahmaputra River ends its journey.

The height of the water leak here is about five thousand meters, and the average annual flow is more than forty five thousand cubic meters per second.

Diverse and unpredictable river

It is impossible to say unambiguously what the nature of this reservoir is. Depending on the area where the river Brahmaputra flows, the character of its waters will also change. There are plains where the river flows quite slowly and calmly. Part of the river that flows through deep mountain gorges is directly opposite in nature. This is dominated by numerous rapids, rapid current and in places even low waterfalls. Quite often, such troubled parts of the river are used for rafting.

Quiet areas are used for navigation. In the area of Tibet on the banks of the river you can see countless number of boat stations. For some settlements this is the only convenient means of transportation. Also, the river water is used for agricultural and drinking needs, for irrigation. The river valley is considered one of the richest areas for forest production. Yew trees, valuable all over the world, grow in these places.

The Brahmaputra River is rich in water and land inhabitants. Along the coast, on the plains and in the valleys of the river there are unique representatives of fauna and flora. Recently, the remains of earthenware have been found here, which even more attracted attention to this place of tourists and archaeological groups.

Part of the river, which is located in India, is considered a local population sacred. There are many large monasteries here. People believe that Brahmaputra is directly connected with the god Brahma.

Feeding the river

The Brahmaputra feeds, like many rivers that originate from the mountain peaks, melt waters. Water content increases sharply when glaciers begin to melt with the onset of spring heat in the Himalayas. The river also rises in the summer, when a huge amount of precipitation falls in the Ganga plain area. Monsoon showers here are a familiar phenomenon.

During the spill, the water level in the Brahmaputra can rise to ten to fifteen meters. Such upsides in the lower reaches often provoke floods. This river is also distinguished among others by the fact that during the rising of the water the tides are carried out by waves.

Despite the huge hydropower potential, the waters of the Brahmaputra River are not being used to their full potential. The hydroelectric power station here was built only in the area of Lhasa (Tibet), and even then it happened in the distant 1957.

Gene storage of biological resources

The great canyon of the Brahmaputra River is called the richest genetic storage of biological resources by scientists. Nine climatic zones are encountered and perfectly interacting with each other. However, many areas are not yet known by man and remain a great mystery. They are inaccessible due to the complex location.

The largest settlements that meet on the way near this river are Tezpur, Shigatse (China), Dhuburi (India).
