Minerals of Ukraine for schoolchildren

Ukraine is one of the richest countries in Europe and the world in terms of the total quantity of natural resources.

The minerals of Ukraine number one hundred and seventeen species and eight thousand deposits. A huge number of workers work in this industry. The map of Ukraine's mineral resources numbers almost three thousand deposits with industrial development. More than two thousand extractive and processing enterprises successfully conduct economic activities in the territory of the state.

Minerals of Ukraine: oil, gas, coal, uranium, iron, aluminum, chrome, nickel, zinc, gold, silver, tin and many others.

The state occupies an honorable first place in the deposits of manganese ores from the CIS countries. Such minerals of Ukraine, as hard coal and iron ore, allow the state to occupy the second place in the same list.

The total amount of world minerals is about five percent.

Kinds

  • Fuel - oil, gas, coal, shales, peat.
  • Ore - iron, manganese, nickel, aluminum.
  • Non-metals - graphite, precious stones.
  • Rare metals - zirconium, titanium, tin, strontium, molybdenum, tungsten, uranium.

Oil and gas

Oil and gas are the most important minerals of Ukraine. For students it is important to know the amount of fuel in the country, its quality and the possibility of real application. Deposits are available in all regions of the country. The largest oil and gas areas are:

  • The Dnieper-Donets Basin. At the moment, the oil and gas region includes the Sumy, Poltava, Chernigov and Kharkov regions. A large amount of associated natural gas. This feature makes it possible to reduce production costs and provide nearby cities with blue fuel.

  • The Carpathian region. The first deposits were formed about one hundred and thirty five million years ago. Industrial mining was started at the end of the eighteenth century. Advanced German and Austrian technologies enabled the beginning of the twentieth century to extract from the bowels of more than two million tons of oil of the highest quality. According to some reports, around five percent of the world's raw materials were mined in the region. The extraction is carried out using drilling rigs.

In the 1950s, scientists discovered new deposits. The extraction was very active.

At the moment, most of the deposits are depleted. Active mining continues mainly in the districts of Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk region. Studies of geologists give positive results regarding the discovery of new deposits.

Total explored and open oil reserves in the fields of Ukraine amounted to almost two hundred million tons. Such a quantity of raw materials can cover a significant demand of the country's population. However, it is not enough, and oil and oil products have to be imported from abroad. The main suppliers are the Russian Federation, Belarus, Lithuania, Romania, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, Turkmenistan.

Total explored and open natural gas reserves in Ukraine's deposits amounted to more than trillion cubic meters, propane and butane - almost fifty billion.

The main gas fields are concentrated in Prykarpattya - the territory of Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, as well as in the Poltava and Kharkov regions.

The most famous gas deposits are Dashavskoye and Shebelinskoye.

Coal

The minerals of Ukraine are represented by two types of this fuel: black (stone) and brown. The coal of the first type in the country is more than fifty-four billion tons. According to this indicator, the state ranks seventh in the world.

The main reserves are concentrated in the Donetsk Coal Basin. Development has been conducted since the end of the eighteenth century. At the moment, the depth of the seams begins at a depth of 1200 meters. This feature makes mining impossible by open pit mining. A large number of mines are located on the territory. Large angles of slope raise the cost of a fossil. At the moment he is on the verge of profitability. In the Donbas region, anthracite and coking coal are mined.

The minerals of Ukraine (you can see the photo of the main species in the article) can be said to be inexhaustible.

The Lviv-Volynsky Coal Basin is the second largest mining site in the country. Depth of occurrence of raw materials - up to seven hundred meters. Opened relatively recently - industrial development began only in the second half of the last century.

Unfortunately, the coal is rather humid and is characterized by high ash content.

In connection with the unprofitable transportation, it is mainly used in the region as a household fuel.

Coal is not the only fuel in Ukraine: the country's solid fuel table is also represented by a brown "fellow". Deposits in four regions form the Dnieper brown coal region.

Extraction takes place in a career way. In connection with the unprofitable transportation and increased flowability, it is also used primarily in the region.

The extraction of brown coal in the Carpathian region and Transcarpathia is currently stopped.

Manganese, iron and copper ore

Ukraine holds the world's leading positions in manganese ore reserves. The main deposits are the Nikopol and Velikaya Tokmatskoe deposits.

Stocks of iron ore reach twenty million tons. The occurrence of strata allows mining to be carried out by open pit mining. The iron content exceeds seventy percent. The main deposits are Krivoy Rog and Kremenchuk.

Also in the bowels of Ukraine is more than twenty million tons of copper ore. The main deposits are within the Volyn-Podolskaya plate.

Mercury

In Ukraine, more than two percent of the world's reserves of this mineral. The main deposits are in Transcarpathia and in the east of the country.

Salt

Huge stocks of white matter are concentrated in the Donetsk basin. Products of the highest quality enjoy constant success abroad.

Export and import

The main exported minerals are: salt, potassium (fertilizers), graphite, mercury, building stone (granite, basalt), iron ore (high-quality steel products), salt.

The main imports are oil and natural gas.
