Gryphon is a breed of dogs. Breed of dogs griffin - photo, price

Dogs are almost the most ancient and most popular companions of man. They can be competed only by cats, but they say they joined people much later. In addition, the feline have a very independent character and although they love the owners, but somehow in their own way. Anyone who wants to have a faithful friend who will always come to you, even if you are in a bad mood, will choose a dog.

Of course, for this fidelity of dogs people have to pay. A lazy person will not bring a dog to the house for anything. No matter how slushy and cold it was on the street, as much as you did not want to crawl out for a walk, the dog has his needs, which he needs to cope with at least twice a day. So it can be said that devotion, loyalty and willingness to sacrifice one's own interests are mutual: it is required from both the dog and its master.

Why you need a dog

This is a paramount question, and everyone should ask it himself, who is going to buy himself such a favorite. After all, depends on the goals and what kind of animal you need to buy. So, if you have a huge country house and need protection - take Alabai or Doberman; If you want to have protection in crowded streets - train a shepherd; If you are a member of a hunting club, choose a hound, a leg or a normal dog. It is worthwhile to carefully study the characteristics of any breed, because some dogs are extremely poorly get along with children or disabled, and others necessarily need long runs, without which they begin to wane.

But if you live in the city, and even in a small apartment, your choice may well be a griffin - a breed of dogs considered to be a family one, but also very compact and clean.

Historical roots

It is not known exactly from whom these lovely little dogs originated. Many believe that the crossing of one of the varieties of a spaniel with an affenpincher resulted in a griffin. The breed of dogs, according to others, owes its origin to Irish and Yorkshire terriers. In any case, it is absolutely certain that their homeland is Belgium, although the main breeders for a long time were the British. However, it is believed that the ancestors of the dynasty, the British were taken out of the mentioned country. In this case, the club of fans of these dogs in Belgium exists since 1880, and they are often called the Brussels griffin - the breed of dogs is very much obliged to the Belgian queen.

Maybe the Pied Piper

There are other countries that claim to be the ancestors of dogs, described as a griffin. The breed of dogs, according to the French, began with their city of Roubaix, although there the exhibition was organized later than in Brussels, for 9 years. In France, it is believed that these dogs were descended from, to be honest, the mongrel dogs that were used to catch rats in the stables. Yes, and the Belgians argue that the ancestors of griffins were rat-catchers, and in this connection were very welcomed by coachmen and horse breeders. In principle, there are grounds for believing this: the size and physique of this breed are quite suitable for fighting rodents. However, the character they do not quite correspond to this: they are too peace-loving and not conflict. Yes, and from a biological point of view, there are some doubts - the structure of the mouth in these dogs is not entirely suitable for hunting. On the other hand, they are without a doubt brave and persistent, that when catching cunning, aggressive and quick-witted rats, it would obviously be useful.

In any case, for a century (or even more), which has passed since the appearance of the Brussels griffin, the breed of dogs could both acquire new pedigree signs, and lose any hunting skills.

Character - like a lion!

Yet, probably, those who believe that the Terriers have poured their blood into the breed of griffins are right. The same mobility and liveliness, indispensable vigilance, but at the same time a calm disposition and self-confidence and one's own strength. Fear of the breed of dogs "griffin" - a photo of some episodes this clearly demonstrates - does not know at all, and despite the small size, they are always ready for battle.

They say that Pekingese and Hina are "small lions", because they do not know fear and forget about their size, rushing to a much larger dog. Griffins will give a huge head start to these breeds: they are smarter and never provoke anyone. But in the case of something - they do not give a descent for all their friendliness. And at the same time they get on well with other kinds of animals.

In other respects, these doggies are tender and devoted - just look at the pictures of dogs with the name of the breed. With strangers, they can be shy and incredulous, but they cuddle, console themselves if the master is upset, and amusingly protect him from the slightest danger.

Parenting is important for a dog

However, given the "lion's inclinations" of your pet, you must take a very careful look at his training. We are not talking about training - dogs of this breed are rarely trained for any service. It's about not letting your pet "sit on your head". And he can! We remember the strong character of dogs of this breed! Otherwise, you can corrupt the animal to such an extent that it will be the command in the house.

From the first days of the griffin's residence in your home, show who is in charge of it. If there are small children - convince the dog that they are at least equal (but better - older, important persons). In principle, this is the only thing you need to achieve from the dog.

Otherwise, play with the dog more, take it in your arms, talk to it, explain why you are doing something that your pet may not like. Become a friend to your dog, and she will become your friend.

Breed Standards

Now griffin is a breed of decorative dogs. It is understandable, little dogs and funny. However, the purity of the breed is tried. Thus, the weight of the animals should be at least three and a maximum of five kilograms, and the last figure is only allowed for "ladies." The color of the coat for purebred, exhibition individuals is red (from a fiery shade to a dark mahogany), pure black or black with a tan. No white or close to this mark is allowed. If the dog is red-haired (of any tone), it should have a darker mask on the muzzle and the same shade of ears.

Features of wool in dogs of this breed

There are two subspecies of Brussels griffins - with stiff and smooth hair. In the first species it is coarse, sometimes even reminiscent of fox fur. Often such a subset of griffins has a very abundant undercoat, and this is not considered a disadvantage, even on the contrary. The only thing - the owners will have to master the art of trimming manually or regularly pay for the services of a dog hairdresser. But such dogs do not shed: the wool grows to a certain length, dies, and bulbs grow new hairs. This affects the cost: if you choose a short-haired dog breed griffin - the price compared with the "smooth" will increase by at least a hundred dollars.

However, any variety of these dogs does not require special care for the coat. Dirt to it almost does not stick, the skin does not get wet. If you clean the dog every day with a brush, then you do not need to bathe it. "Beard", of course, gets dirty during meals, but dogs often bring a dedicated towel themselves to wipe their muzzle.

Breeding problems

Many thoroughbred dogs are problematic in breeding. Griffins are also no exception: in bitches very often the estrus passes bloodlessly, and it is possible to mate at all with the partner that is planned. In puppies, the first three to four weeks of life is considered a dangerous period - some do not survive. That's why the price of a breed of griffin dogs is so high - the price of even a potentially puppy dog "for the soul" starts at 25,000 rubles.

However, you should not be afraid of buying a sick, non-viable puppy. After the lapse of the so-called critical period, the puppies are quite strong, alert and resistant to disease.

Did you like the breed of dogs "griffin" (photo)? Their price can range from $ 600 to one and a half thousand or more. But note: the cost is significantly increased by elite animals; If you are not going to exhibit a dog at international competitions, buy yourself a puppy, which you just liked.
