Flizelin - is it cloth or paper? Types, description, application

Every person who at least once tried to sew a thing on his own, faced with the problem of deformation of sections of fabric and individual parts of clothing. To ensure that the product has become impeccable, a special cushioning material called flizelin is used in the garment industry.

What kind of miracle material?

Qualitative processing of the cuts of the lower edges of skirts and pants, neck, turn-down collar can be done only with a good cushioning layer. Among non-professional tailors, who are just beginning to sew, there is an opinion that nonwoven fabric is a fabric. In fact, this is a misconception.

Flizelin is a non-woven interlining material of white or yellowish color on the basis of cellulose fibers. At the same time, it is allowed to add polyester fibers. White color is most common among lining materials, but you can choose any shade depending on the chosen fabric.

In its structure, non-woven fabric resembles paper. Depending on the purpose, the paper layer can be thin and weightless for lightweight fabrics or as thick as cardboard to stiffen the collar or cuff.

Due to the fact that an additional layer of fabric is used for sewing a product, those parts of clothes that usually easily deform during sewing, as well as during further washing and cleaning, become stiffer and denser, do not stretch, and the appearance of the thing remains impeccable.

A non-woven fleece is produced in rolls of 100 meters in length and 80 to 100 centimeters wide.

Types of non-woven fabrics

The fibers from which the non-woven fabric is made may be impregnated or not. Depending on this, two main types of cushioning material are distinguished: glue and non-adhesive. The first is mainly used for sewing different clothes. It is not removed, but remains on the fabric to impart additional density to the parts of the product.

Adhesive fleece is a nonwoven web of cellulose fibers, which is coated with a layer of glue. Adhesive coating can be continuous, like a film, and a point coating. To impart details to the rigidity, a dense fleece with a continuous coating is used. To make the fabric stay light, but keep the shape, use a point variant.

Nucleous fleecele is water-soluble and detachable. It is easily removed from the fabric, so it is more suitable for various types of creative work. It is also called interlining for embroidery. It's enough just to rinse the finished work - and the cushioning material will dissolve in the water. And you can just gently tear off the fabric without damaging the embroidery.

Flizelin is also thread-resistant. In this case along the fibers of the laying cloth there is a machine stitch. This provides the material with additional strength.

If the tailoring of the product requires processing only a small piece of clothing, then in this case it is better to use a non-woven edge. It is a cut of a cloth with a width of 1 to 4 centimeters and is ideal for processing the bottom sections of trousers and skirts.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like other types of cushioning materials, non-woven fabric also has certain advantages and disadvantages.

The main positive factor in using this type of cushion cloth is its price. Unlike similar materials (for example, doublerine), non-woven fabric is relatively inexpensive. Depending on the type and density of the canvas, the price for it is from 20 to 50 rubles per meter.

Among the shortcomings can be identified its fragility. In inaccurate handling, the fleece can be easily torn. And if the cushioning material is dense, the part of the product can become rigid, like plywood. In addition, in spite of the fact that the non-woven fabric is not a paper, it crumples, and creases and creases also form on it.

How to use non-woven fabrics

It is not difficult to work with the cushioning material, but in order for the product to have an impeccable look, one must adhere to certain rules. Despite the fact that violet is not a fabric, it is better to cut it along, as well as ordinary matter.

In order to glue the liner, it is necessary to apply it with a glutinous rough side to the underside of the product and iron it with a hot iron with steam through a cut of fabric. For things of dense matter, the cut should be wetted first and then ironed. And, conversely, to lightweight thin fabric, the fleece coat is stuck dry with a hot iron. Press the iron to the cloth should not more than 10 seconds, otherwise the glue will appear on the front side.

Flizelin for fabric is used not only for tailoring products, but also in almost all forms of creativity.

Flizelin is an indispensable assistant in the sewing business. Affordable price, ease of use, good quality of the finished products underscore the advantages of this cushioning material among other types and provide its wide application.
