Fittings are an integral part of the pipeline system

In general, fittings are all kinds of nodes used to connect different parts of pipelines. They are various in shape and configuration: corners (bends), tees, couplings, collectors, crosses, adapters, plugs. Pipe fittings are classified according to their connection methods. So, they can be threaded, capillary (for soldering capillary), compression, self-locking, glue.

Threaded fittings are the most common type of such products. They just wind up on the pipe. Such a pipe connection system is the oldest. Most often, threaded fittings are made of cast iron and are used to connect steel pipes. Their disadvantage is the tartness and brittleness characteristic of cast iron.

Compression joints made of steel, plastic, brass, copper, polypropylene are used for joining metal-plastic pipes . Metal-plastic fittings are easy to use, because they have a special crimping ring. It is tightened with a wrench after putting it on the pipe.

For connecting pipes made of copper, fittings are used, intended for soldering capillary. The principle of their application is quite simple: the required assembly is put on the pipe and heated with a special heating pad until the copper or tin wire solder under the internal thread is melted. After that, it fills all the free space between the fitting and the pipe.

Recently, the production of self-locking joints used for metal-plastic pipes began. They are installed very quickly. Such fittings are simply put on a pre-cut and calibrated pipe to the stop. They can be used several times. There is also a variety of these knots, such as glue fittings. They are made of polyvinyl chloride. Their connection with the pipes is carried out with the help of special glue.

Special metal fittings are used for connecting metal-polymer pipes. Most often they are made of brass. Their crimp sleeve is made of steel. To install such a fitting, you need a special press.

Their unusual name for fittings was obtained from the word "FITTING", which in English means "fitting", "installation", "installation". The scope of their application is very extensive. Fittings are nodes (connections), without which installation of gas, water, heat pipes and other systems is impossible. Based on where they are installed, they are called connecting and intermediate. The first are used for connection to the central pipeline of various devices. Intermediate fittings - this is the nodes that are usually installed in the junction of pipes. In cases of changing the direction of the pipes, bends are used. Adapters and couplings are installed only on straight sections. Crosses are necessary for the installation of double-sided branches from the pipeline, and tees for one-sided ones.

All fittings have different properties, which depend on the type of material from which they are made. So, brass knots have high impact resistance, durability and heat resistance. They are used in process pipelines, water and heat pipes. To give them increased resistance to corrosion, they are covered with a layer of nickel or chromium.
